Too Much (But Never Enough)

Too Much (But Never Enough)CJ Levinson

I walked across a sunburnt landTried to define myself amongst the sandBut all I found was a memoryOf something I’d tried to leave behindYou smiled at me from across the roomAnd I don’t know why I waste my timeDreaming of something that can never beSomething that can never be

And I don’t know why I feel so shyBecause when I open my eyes, you’re standing right thereAnd I don’t know why I feel so highBecause when I open my eyes, the magic’s not thereIt’s too much but never enough (too much but never enough)

I looked across the desolate landImagined the world in the palm of my handA voice on the wind called your nameBut I was frozen at the wrong time to hearWe were like strangers falling in loveAnd I don’t know why I keep coming back for moreWhen you don’t even know who I amNo, you don’t know who I am

And I don’t know why I feel so shyBecause when I open my eyes, you’re standing right thereAnd I don’t know why I feel so highBecause when I open my eyes, the magic’s not thereIt’s too much but never enough (too much but never enough)

Now we’re back where we belongYou with your promises, me on my kneesBegging forgiveness for something I don’t understandIt’s why I learnt to crawl before I walked

[Instrumental]

And I don’t know why I feel so shyBecause when I open my eyes, you’re standing right thereAnd I don’t know why I feel so highBecause when I open my eyes, the magic’s not thereIt’s too much but never enough (too much but never enough)

Yes, it’s too much but never enoughToo much but never enoughToo much but never enough

I love it. :)CJ: Thanks, TT. Took me ages to get it just right, so I’m glad you like it. Next stop – a recording studio! ;)

I like it. Now, put it to music so we can really get the feel for how it should sound. :-)All I can manage to write are parodies. Even those are incomplete. My short fiction is extremely short, such as the “What planet are you from?” quiz in my blog. sighCJ: Thanks for the feedback! I’d actually love to put it to music, but I have no musical sense myself, so I’m not sure how it should sound. Probably a cross between Snow Patrol and Portishead… now there’s an eclectic mix. :)I hesitate calling these songs, really; because I’m just writing lyrics, it’s more like poetry. And my poetry is more like prose. Weird. But for every one of these I finish, there are 10 which will never see the light of day… it’s more about the process that the result. Maybe looking at it that way helps. ;)
